Pokémon GO creators announce new initiative so you can game whilst you sleep
The Pokémon Company created Pokémon GO to encourage gamers to get out and better their personal health. Now they turn their focus towards improving how much sleep they get too.
At some point in the future, The Pokémon Company plan to reward player's sleep habits via gameplay. CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara announced in a recent press conference that they want to "turn sleep into entertainment”.
John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, the app developer that made Pokémon GO - the fastest app to earn $100 million and most-downloaded in its first month of release - also spoke at the press conference about partnering up again to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Hanke said: "Niantic pioneered a new kind of gaming by turning the whole world into a gameboard, where we can all play and explore. By creating a new way to see the world and an incentive to go outside and exercise, we hoped to encourage a healthy lifestyle and to make a positive impact on our players and on the world.
"We’re delighted to be working with The Pokémon Company on their efforts to encourage another part of a healthy lifestyle: getting a good night’s rest."
The new device which was announced, the Pokémon GO+ Plus, has a built-in accelerometer which allows it to track sleep habits - even when laid on the pillow - and send the data to phones via Bluetooth.
The new device will still have all the features the Pokémon Go+ had, which allowed gamers to play Pokémon GO without having to look at their phone screens.
