IKEA and Sonos have today revealed a range of speaker-equipped furnishings that will be available to buy in IKEA stores from August.

The highly-anticipated collaboration showed off the 'Symfonisk' set - comprised of a table lamp that is also a speaker, and a bookshelf... which is also a speaker.

The products are affordably priced at $179 for the lamp and $99 for the bookshelf, which can be attached to a wall horizontally or vertically.

IKEA will be the only store stocking the range and whilst they do have their own smart-home app, the products will require users to make use of the Sonos app on smart devices.

The increased functionality of the Sonos app means that the speakers can be linked together, so they can be used as a budget surround sound alternative.

Like Sonos’ other recent models, the Symfonisk speakers will support Apple AirPlay 2, meaning that iOS devices can play audio directly through the products.

Unlike the Sonos One or Sonos Beam, neither Symfonisk speaker has a built-in microphone. If you have a separate Google Home or Amazon Echo smart speaker nearby, then you’ll be able to control the IKEA speakers using your voice through that. However there’s no onboard Alexa support.
