Jumpstart and BBOXX will be speaking about R&D tax relief at this year’s Unbound London innovation festival.

The festival will take place at the Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch, on 18th and 18th July and bring together rich sources of innovation from across Europe.

Jumpstart, a national R&D tax relief specialist based in Edinburgh, will do a presentation with their long-time clients BBOXX all about the benefits of R&D tax relief.

Previous speakers at the festival have included Johann Butting, Head of EMEA for Slack, Tristan Thomas, Head of Marketing and Community, Monzo and Elizabeth Varley, Founder and CEO of TechHub.

Chris Barker, one of Jumpstart’s Business Development Managers for London, will cover the effects of grants on R&D tax relief claims and dispel some of the common myths and misunderstandings of the tax relief process to help innovative companies avoid pitfalls.

Barker said: “R&D tax relief and Patent Box are important schemes for aspirational tech companies which can support their investment in innovation to help them become world class in what they do.

“Many of the companies attending Unbound London are focused on innovation and likely eligible to claim for rebates against their R&D spend. Our presentation is designed to promote how the R&D tax relief and Patent Box schemes work to ensure companies don’t miss out on the significant benefits they can deliver.”

Christopher Baker-Brian, Chief Technology Officer at London-based BBOXX will discuss how R&D tax relief has benefitted the business which he co-founded in 2010.

BBOXX design, manufactures, distributes and finances innovative solar systems to improve access to energy across Africa and the developing world, selling more than 150,000 products in over 35 countries.

BBOXX has carried out R&D activity to develop robust pay as you go processes which integrate with mobile money systems that are widely used by consumers in Africa. The company has been supported on R&D tax relief claims by Jumpstart since 2014.

BBOXX’s Christopher Baker-Brian said: “I look forward to sharing our story and outlining how R&D tax relief has helped us develop our business. Innovation is at the heart of what we do at BBOXX – it has helped us improve our systems and expand customer services in the markets we serve.
