YouTube star PewDiePie, once the world's highest earning YouTuber, has announced he is taking a break, blaming "tiredness".

The 30-year-old Swedish star, real name Felix Kjellberg, initially found fame through his videos playing Minecraft and other games and has amassed more than 102 million subscribers.

He has courted controversy in recent times, with accusations surrounding racism and anti-Semitism.

Two years ago, Disney cut ties with him after some of his videos were found to contain Nazi references or anti-Semitic imagery, and he was also forced to apologise for using the N-word during a live stream.

He's now announced his decision to take a break in a video.

He said: "I am taking a break from YouTube next year. I wanted to say it in advance because I made up my mind."

"I'm tired. I'm feeling very tired. I don't know if you can tell. Just so you know, early next year I'll be a way for a little while. I'll explain that later but I wanted to give a heads up."

The YouTuber lives in Brighton with his wife who he married in London this summer.
