Tesla's new "dog mode"

Dogs die in hot cars - unless that car is a Tesla.

On Wednesday, the car manufacturer co-founded by high-profile billionaire Elon Musk, announced it had rolled out “dog mode” with a software update.

Now, when dog owners leave their vehicle briefly, the new mode will keep the air conditioning running, and tell concerned passers-by what the current interior temperature is through the central screen.

The screen will also display “My owner will be back soon”, to allay any fears, and hopefully prevent people breaking the car’s window to rescue the pet.

Tesla’s instructions are as follows: “To enable Dog Mode, tap the fan icon at the bottom of the touchscreen when your car is parked. Set Keep Climate On to DOG, make adjustments within temperature limits, then leave knowing your pet will stay comfortable. Dog Mode will stay on after you leave your car.”
