Disney sponsors Simon Mayo show on new station Scala Radio

Entertainment giant Disney has signed up as launch partner for Simon Mayo’s brand new radio show on new station, Scala Radio, which starts broadcasting on 4 March.

The commercial partnership will see entertainment brand Disney sponsoring Simon Mayo’s brand-new mid-morning show – the first ever commercial partner for the presenter. 

The world-leading entertainment and film brand will sponsor the station’s flagship show for six months celebrating upcoming movie releases including the major live-action reboot The Lion King featuring Beyoncé as well as the re-imagined Dumbo film, Aladdin and Artemis Fowl.

In addition, the station will launch with a number of other partners seeking to connect with this unique audience of cultural explorers who want to live where the energy is, and who love classical music whilst leading a modern life.

Other sponsors lined up for new radio station

They include: Kilimanjaro Live Ltd. promoting Andrea Bocelli & Hans Zimmer, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Sandals Resorts, AJ Bell and Salisbury International Arts Festival.

“Our insight has uncovered a modern audience using films as a gateway to classical music and this launch partnership with Disney for Simon’s first commercial show is a brilliant fit for the cultural explorers of Scala Radio”, said Simon Kilby, Chief Revenue Officer at Bauer Media, which owns Scala.

“This bespoke creative campaign will capture our audience’s imagination with the most eagerly-awaited Disney titles arriving in 2019 accompanied by a modern classical soundtrack fitting of its place in modern life.”

The bespoke Scala Radio and Disney campaign, which is brokered by OMD, runs from 4 March until 4 August and encompasses branded content across radio and digital platforms featuring a suite of individual Disney entertainment products, Bauer said.

Scala Radio will feature special guests, mini-series’, and shows about classical music in popular gaming and mindfulness. The station launches at 10am on 4th March with a familiar voice: Simon Mayo - with an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary music, listener requests and confessions with a classical twist, along with special guest and fellow Scala Radio presenter conversations.

Joining Simon on his Saturday show will be food and wine expert Nigel Barden the company said.

Mayo was the presenter of a revamped drive time show on BBC Radio 2 with Jo Whiley, which was broadcast between 14 May 2018 and 20 December 2018. The pairing did not go down well and Mayo quit marking the end of his 17 year career on the station.
