TBWA Worldwide have promoted Cem Topçuoğlu to the position of president, international.

Topçuoğlu’s elevation will not affect the London office the company has said, but does impact Manchester/Ireland as well as a series of markets across Western Europe; including Finland, Italy, Spain and Sweden as these territories fall under the broadened remit.

The promotion comes as a reward for his work as president of TBWA/Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa over the past four years.

He began his career in advertising as an Account Executive at Grey during his final year at university. In 1988, he worked in Grey’s New York office and gained experience on fast-moving consumer goods, working for clients such as Procter & Gamble and Bristol-Myers. He continued working for Grey in Istanbul, rising to the position of Executive Vice President.

In 1993 he founded Select Advertising with two partners, and in 1999, established a partnership with TBWA Worldwide, going on to found TBWA\Istanbul.

Reporting directly to TBWA\Worldwide president and CEO Troy Ruhanen, Topçuoğlu has been given a chance to stretch his wings having proven his value to the agency over a 20-year career.

Rahuanen said: “Cem has been instrumental in driving innovation and reinvention in key markets across EMEA. He’s not a fix-it man, but a builder for sustained success, helping to architect tailored visions for each operation. We’ve seen his impact from Turkey to Dubai to South Africa to Russia, and we’re looking forward to him bringing the same energy to more markets in Western Europe.”
