International ad agency M&C Saatchi has promoted Mark Newnes to the role of deputy managing director.

The role is a newly created one for the firm, made possible by a year of unprecedented growth and a shake up of the leadership team. Recently, Raquel Chicourel was appointed into the role of CSO and Kate Bosomworth became CMO.

Mark will report to managing director Tom Firth, and commented: "I’m delighted to take on this position, during what is an exciting year for the agency."

Newnes is a veteran for the brand, having spent nearly eight years as managing partner.

There, he oversaw clients such as NatWest and Royal Mail. Previously he led the Department for Work and Pensions, Rail Delivery Group and Department for International Trade business.

He began as senior account director in 2011, before moving to a business director position in 2013, and finally becoming managing partner in 2016.

CEO Giles Hedger commented on the appointment: “Mark is a natural leader, the perfect role model for account management, and a key part of our succession plan. Clients love Mark because his honesty and calm efficiency are the perfect antidote to the times we live in.”

M&C Saatchi was formed back in 1995. It operates in 29 locations around the world, with eight offices in Europe and one in the Soho, London, where Newnes is based. It works with big hitters such as Change4Life, Public Health England and Amazon Prime Video.
