Lingumi, the London- and Cardiff-based pre-school English language learning system, has raised £4 million in Series A funding.

The startup, which also has a presence in Singapore and China, and customers all over the world, was founded by Adit Trivedi and Toby Mather in 2016. The total funds raised by the company now sit at £5.7 million.

The Series A fundraising round saw contributions from LocalGlobe, Entrepreneur First, ADV, and North Summit Capital.

Lingumi is based on a combination of practical English teaching experience, and research from academics and experts from top universities. It is aimed for use by children between two and six years old, the time when language learning is at its most achievable.

It was based on Co-founder Toby's experience teaching English abroad, and how difficult many children found it due to having missed the receptive opportunity earlier in their lives.

Around 100,000 families in mainland China, Taiwan, Italy, France and beyong use Lingumi to learn English. It entered the Chinese market less than one year ago.
