Investment bank Lazard is reportedly launching a new division focusing on European companies at the scale-up stage.

The Venture and Growth Banking division will be based in London, and will include Series B and C rounds, according to TechCrunch.

In doing so, it is understood that Lazard hopes it can bring its offering to companies that would generally wait until later stages before considering partnering with an investment bank.

TechCrunch reports that the division will look at businesses in tech- and engineering-intensive fields such as AI and clean tech, as well as established VC sectors such as fintech.

The Venture and Growth Banking division will begin by identifying the 100 fastest-growing startups in Europe, and hopes to introduce them to some 400 potential corporate, institutional, and private investors.
