Last night (March 26th) on Channel 4, the broadcaster staged a takeover of one of its commercial breaks during Channel 4 News to thank the NHS, as people around the country opened doors and windows to #ClapForOurCarers.

39 brands came togethe for the first time to show solidarity with the health service at this difficult time when resources are stretched. It followed their extended news coverage covering the national movement #ClapForOurCarers - which brought together the nation at 8pm to applaud those looking after our loved ones from windows, doorsteps and balconies.

A sequence of user-generated-content clips from a series of diverse advertisers, filmed on hand held devices, featured a selection of workers from each brand clapping, saying thanks and taking the opportunity to show their appreciation.

Matt Salmon, Director of Sales at Channel 4, said: “Feeling connected to each other and being part of a shared national ‘moment’ has never felt more important and we are incredibly proud to be able to play our part in showing appreciation for the fantastic NHS. What better way to do this than by joining forces with our advertisers who have responded, at lightning speed, to create this moving commercial break.”

Annemarie Plas, the yoga teacher and software salesperson who set up the #ClapForOurCarers campaign, said: “I’m really pleased so many organisations are getting behind this important campaign, because we need everyone in this fight against the virus.”
