Google Maps is helping make the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) easier than ever, by introducing a feature that lets you refine your nearest charge point by type.

There are a number of standard charging methods for EVs - including CHAdeMO, used by Nissan; Combined Charging System (CCS), used by US and German carmakers; Type 2, used in Europe; and Tesla's proprietary model.

Now electric car drivers can find not just where their nearest EV charging point is found, but filter out those that don't offer the connection that their EV has.

The feature for finding nearby EV charge points was introduced to Google Maps towards the end of 2018. In April 2019, Google added a feature which displays whether a charging station is currently in use.
