London has taken second place in a global ranking of the best cities for marketers.

The new report from Accenture saw New York take the top spot, while Singapore leads the pack in the Asia Pacific region - the report having been commissioned by the Singapore government's Economic Development Board.

Accenture polled 250 marketers, seeking their views on topics such as access to talent and cultural diversity.

Separately, the company also asked CMOs about their belief in their abilities to hit their future targets. They found overwhelming confidence, with just 1 per cent of respondents saying they were not sufficiently prepared to deliver.

According to the Accenture research, the top ten global cities for marketers are:

  1. New York
  2. London
  3. San Francisco
  4. Chicago
  5. Amsterdam
  6. Singapore
  7. Sydney
  8. Hong Kong
  9. Tokyo
  10. Shanghai

Commenting on the research, Accenture's country manager for Singapore, Teo Lay Lim, said: “Today’s world runs on rapid and perpetual change and as a result of this, the role of the chief marketing officers is evolving. They are now spending more time managing disruptive growth, and also see themselves as visionaries charting the business of tomorrow."

"The future of work in marketing requires different skillsets but also entirely new ways of working. chief marketing officers will have to look at hiring new people, upskilling existing staff, and even harnessing emerging technologies such as automation, analytics and artificial intelligence to augment roles."
