Bug locks advertisers out of Facebook and Instagram accounts

Thousands of Facebook users have been locked out of their accounts as a bug has spread.

The bug appears to affect users who report accounts impersonating their own. At this point Facebook locks the reporter's account and asks for photo identification in order to restore access.

But even once this has been provided the account remains locked, with some users reporting that they have been unable to access their profiles for weeks.

The bug particularly impacts admins of Facebook Pages and Instagram advertiser services, meaning that marketers may be losing access to their campaigns.
