London fintechs top LinkedIn’s list of best startups
Social media giant LinkedIn has named the 25 top startups in the UK for young professionals to work at - and 22 of them are based here in the capital.
The number one startup according to LinkedIn is fintech challenger bank Monzo, which was followed in second place by controversial rival Revolut.
Moreover, nine of the top ten in the list are London-based companies.
London’s prominence as a global fintech hub has steadily grown over the last few years and The 2019 LinkedIn Top Startups list shows the capital’s continued appeal.
With the 3rd annual Top Startups ranking, LinkedIn said it had uncovered the “young companies commanding professionals’ attention today: the ones that are growing massively, scrambling industries, shifting talent flows around the world and, often, altering how we work and live.”
The firm said its editors and data scientists parsed billions of actions generated by LinkedIn’s 645 million members – and looked at four pillars in particular: employee growth; jobseeker interest; member engagement with the company and its employees; and how well these startups pulled talent from our flagship LinkedIn Top Companies list.
To be eligible, companies must be seven years old or younger, have at least 50 employees, be privately held and headquartered in the UK.
Katie Carroll, UK Managing Editor at LinkedIn, said: “It’s fantastic to see continued innovation in tech spearheading our Top Startups list this year.
“This list shows just how much the digital transformation we’ve seen in the last decade is impacting every aspect of our lives, from health and sports right through to banking, as well as inspiring the UK workforce to engage with emerging societal trends.
“It’s no surprise that this kind of forward-thinking innovation is inspiring our LinkedIn network and attracting so many members to join these startups.”
London Mayor's backing
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “London’s tech community boasts some of the most dynamic, innovative businesses in the world and it’s great to see this being celebrated.
“As the most pro-business Mayor London has had, I want to make sure tech start-ups and entrepreneurs know that this city is the best place to base their business and that it will always be open to them.”
