Twitter is testing a new function that allows users to subscribe to the replies to tweets they are particularly interested in.

The feature is intended to make it easier for users to keep track of conversations they're following, by making notifying them of new additions to threads.

In a tweet announcing the test, the company said that many users already have notifications turned on for specific accounts that they follow.

The existing notification feature notifies users every time a favourite account posts a tweet.

But the new test takes that feature one step further, offering notifications on a by-tweet basis.

The function is being tested on iOS and Android. Users can turn it on by navigating to the relevant tweet, pressing the bell icon, and then choosing one of the relevant options: to subscribe to the 'top' replies; to subscribe to all replies, or to unsubscribe from the tweet.
