Jukedeck, a UK startup that creates technology to make AI-generated music, has reportedly been acquired by the owners of TikTok.

As TechCrunch reports, Jukedeck founder Ed Newton-Rex, along with a number of his colleagues, has changed his LinkedIn details to show that he now works for Bytedance, the owners of the viral Chinese video platform.

Jukedeck makes software that enables the creation of AI-generated music. It had previously raised £2.5 million from investors including Cambridge Innovation Capital.

AI-generated compositions are a hot area for music-related startups, with companies including streaming giant Spotify reported to be investing heavily in the area.

TikTok hosts a huge amount of music-related content, and the music industry has been paying great attention to the platform since it has helped to launch songs including Lil Nas X's smash hit 'Old Town Road'.

Per TechCrunch, the Jukedeck website has now been taken offline, and has been replaced by a message reading: “We can’t tell you more just yet, but we’re looking forward to continuing to fuel creativity using musical AI!”
