Say It Now, a voicetech company working to help computers understand natural language, has appointed a new chairman.

Brian Fitzpatrick, who is also an angel investor in the company, will take on the role following 25 years in digital media development.

He is currently general manager for Europe at adtech company IPONWEB, and has previously held roles at Adap.tv and the Media Innovation Group.

Say It Now is building tools to understand natural language - a key part of the effort to help users converse with computers in the same way they would with other humans.

Natural language processing is one of the most important aspects of the continued development of voice-activated technologies such as smart speakers.

Appetite for these technologies is growing amongst consumers, with more smart speakers shipped during Q4 201 than during the whole of 2017, according to a report from Strategy Analytics.

Commenting on the appointment, Say It Now CEO and co-founder Charlie Cadbury said: “The key challenges for businesses based on nascent technology is finding the killer use cases that deliver value in everyday life, creating a differentiated and compelling proposition around them and bringing that to market faster and better than the competition.

"Brian truly understands the software development cycle and how to position it for advantage.  His expertise, experience and influence can only be beneficial for Say It Now.”
