Upgrade Pack nab Deborah Merrens from British Airways

Travel tech company Upgrade Pack has appointed Deborah Merrens as its new chief marketing officer.

Merrens joins from British Airways, where she led global relationship marketing. There, she was responsible for loyalty, digital comms, corporate, and trade marketing.

She was also part of the launch team for British Airways' ba.com. Prior to that she created Delta's first rewards scheme tailored to SMEs.

At Upgrade Pack Merrens will oversee all marketing. The company offers a closed marketplace app for travel upgrades, making unsold hotel and airline inventory available to a customer base made up of affluent travellers.

She will join the company's senior leadership team, and will report to group CEO Craig Unsworth.

Commenting on the appointment, Unsworth said: “Deborah’s industry experience aligns perfectly with our business and its clients, partners and users.

“Her deep understanding of frequent travellers and premium offerings across international markets will be invaluable within our core niches, and as we scale. Having worked with her previously I’m delighted to welcome her to our growing team.”

Merrens added: “I’m delighted to be working with Craig again to deliver an innovative solution to a clear gap in the market. I’m excited by the opportunity to bring such a transformative platform to travellers around the world, while generating revenue for our travel partners. It really is the ultimate win-win for our clients, partners and users alike.”
