Outernet Global, a network of central city "cultural hubs", has appointed James McEwan as its new chief operating officer.

McEwan comes from Dentsu Aegis Network, where he was a managing director at PSI.

He moves into the role as Outernet prepares for the launch of its central London "immersive media space".

Situated on Tottenham Court Road, the company says that its Outernet London location will include a 2,000 capacity live music venue, restaurants, bars, and an "upscale hotel".

In addition, the site will host what the company describes as an "immersive media space", featuring 8K, 360-degree, floor-to-ceiling screens on which Outernet says stories and branded content will be displayed.

Commenting on the appointment, Outernet Global CEO and president Philip Bourchier said: “As Outernet London marks a year to go until our opening, we’re thrilled to welcome James to the team. His vast experience across the marketing and advertising industry will propel Outernet forward, further energising our efforts when speaking to brands and bringing to life the proposition for London. This is something we expect to be a game-changer in the fields of brand marketing and consumer experiences.”

McEwan added: “The chance to be part of Outernet Global is a fantastic opportunity. What Philip and the team are doing in this space is truly ground-breaking and I am delighted to be tasked with helping bring the vision to life!”
