One of the most senior UK Spotify executives has quit has job, it has been reported.

Austin Daboh was a prominent figurehead for the company, working as its head of music culture and editorial.

As Music Business World reports, Daboh is said to be leaving Spotify for a "close competitor", thought to be Apple Music.

He has been a key player in Spotify's move into underground British music such as grime and hip-hop, particularly through the development of playlists such as Who We Be, which has also become a successful live touring proposition.

Daboh joined Spotify in 2016, following a stint at BBC Radio 1Xtra.

At the BBC he was mentored by then-Radio 1 and 1Xtra Head of Music George Ergatoudis, who left for Spotify in the same year as Daboh.

Ergatoudis has since moved to Apple Music, where the two could now be reunited.
