Google cracks down on ads relating to coronavirus-5G conspiracy theories

Google is banning misleading advertising that links 5G mobile technology to the coronavirus outbreak.

To do so, the company has banned search ads for search terms and keywords that carry the false connection.

Google is also banning all videos covering a so-called connection between COVID-19 and 5G technology.

Both Google and Facebook have come under fire for failing to stop the spread of misinformation.

As many as 20 mobile phone masts have been damaged in arson attacks over the last few weeks by believers of the conspiracy theory.

Damage to mobile infrastructure masts could put lives at risk as the emergency services rely on technology.

Facebook recently limited the number of times a message can be forwarded on its Whatsapp messaging app to try to slow the spread of misinformation.
