My Startup: Kuldea
Kuldea is a furniture comparison site that allows people to discover and compare products across a number of retailers.
The website aggregates products across the entire furniture retail market and provides people with a search engine that quickly and easily places the right products in front of them based on their relevance.
Founded in 2017, Kuldea has been brought to life by the vision of co-Founders Deirdre Mc Gettrick and Ray Wright who have made it their mission to bring all furniture products and retailers together on one website.

Why did you start Kuldea?
I founded Kuldea after I struggled to find the perfect furniture products for my home. As part of furnishing my apartment, I had plenty of inspiration from various sources such as instagram, pinterest, friends' homes, restaurants, hotels but the issue always came to finding the perfect items that I had set my heart on having. I would spend a long time going from website to website, re-entering my search terms but struggling to find the item I wanted in the specific colour, function or budget I was working with.
I was always wondering what I was missing out on by only searching the main furniture retailers that constantly came up on google. The search process was just too fragmented!
I found many friends were going through the same experience so I decided to do something about it by creating Kuldea to bring all furniture retailers and products together onto one website, enabling people to search for furniture products simply and quickly.
Tell us more about the company?
www.kuldea.com is an online search and comparison engine for furniture that allows people to search, discover, compare and shop products across the entire market on one website. The platform provides the easiest way for people to discover furniture they love in just a few clicks, eliminating the frustration of the fragmented search process that exists today.
Kuldea also creates interior design and home furnishing articles in collaboration with industry experts and leading furniture retailers to help inform and inspire people shopping for furniture.
Where’s the business at right now?
There’s a lot of momentum behind Kuldea at right now. We have increased the number of retailers to 66 and we are on track to reach 100 by the end of the year. We currently feature over 100,000 products across all the key home furniture categories such as sofas, beds, tables, storage, office and accessories such as art or softer home furnishings.
The most exciting part is that we’re partnering with so many smaller furniture retailers to help them scale online which brings consumers new and exciting options that they may not have previously discovered.
We’ve raised £150,000 in investment to date and have significant further investment lined up over the coming months that will see Kuldea release new and amazing features for consumers shopping for furniture. Features such as artificial intelligence and personalized shopping tools that will further revolutionise how people search and discover furniture for their homes are all in development and product testing right now!
What are your aims for the next year?
Scale, scale, scale. We are in rapid growth mode. We’ve scaled our platform and team significantly and we will continue to build the Kuldea brand through further rapid expansion in the next 12 months. It’s a busy time but super exciting that we are growing a world-class product at real pace in all departments.
By the end of next year, we aim to double our UK retailers on Kuldea and expand the platform into two key foreign markets where we have significant opportunity for expansion given the technology we have built.
What’s been the hardest thing about getting Kuldea off the ground?
The hardest thing has been finding the correct hires for the business. Skill and cultural fit are crucial for Kuldea and there is so much competition in the market for talented people. The recruitment process has been long and protracted at times in order to get the right hires who align with our values and have the required skills.
We’re committed to building the best team possible so although this has been hard we won’t waiver on our commitment for short term gain.
Why should more people be using Kuldea?
Kuldea brings the whole furniture market onto one platform making the furniture search process as easy as possible for people. Kuldea wants to save people time and money (and spare them frustration!), whilst uniting them with the furniture product that best suits their requirements, be that price, colour, function, style etc.
Not only does Kuldea provide one website where all furniture retailers and products are listed in an unbiased manner. Kuldea also seeks to educate people on key purchasing decisions to give people the confidence to make a large ticket, long life cycle product through interior design and home furnishing articles in collaboration with industry experts.
Once confident on the key purchasing decisions, people can search based on the relevance of furniture products to their requirements.
How much will it cost customers? and why is it worth it?
Kuldea is completely free of charge for the general public to use. The price people see on the Kuldea website is the same price on the furniture retailers’ website.
Kuldea is also free for furniture retailers to list their products on the website. This model ensures Kuldea remains completely unbiased and open to having the widest selection of furniture products available to people.
Kuldea makes money by charging furniture retailers a percentage commission on each sale they make that originates from the Kuldea site. Furniture retailers are willing to pay commission on sales generated from Kuldea as it saves them paying a potentially higher acquisition cost across other marketing avenues.
