by Mark Johnson's media company, Forward, has hired award-winning marketer and agency founder Gellan Watt as Chief Commercial Officer.

Having consulted with the team on the development and launch of Playbook, the in-housing consultancy, Watt has now joined permanently to focus on innovation, strategy and growth opportunities, the company said.

This includes acquisitions, following FWD’s recent acquisition of leading video content agency, Madfish.

Watt brings with him a vast array of experience in creative, brand and commercial strategy working for some of the world’s leading brands.

He and his business partners grew and successfully exited the UK’s 12th largest independent agency business, Emerge Group, in 2016.

Since then, he has been consulting with global brands on growth and brand strategy, including lm Group, working as a non-executive and investing in tech start-ups.

Disruptive potential

“Forward is uniquely placed to disrupt the marketing landscape with a broad range of offerings, new products and future acquisitions”, Watt said.

“It’s a great team with a big vision and rare skill set – having built one of the UK’s best in-house media businesses. The push into consulting and innovation is seriously exciting.

“I’m glad to be on board and look forward to working with the team to drive rapid growth across the business.”

Forward’s CEO, Alessandra Di Lorenzo, added: “Gellan is a brilliant addition to the Forward family. His experience and expertise will be hugely valuable for us as we continue to grow Forward, boost our innovation and expand our unique offering to the market.

“We have ambitious plans and an even more ambitious team – I’m really excited about the year ahead.”
